First opened in 1968, the Nitty Gritty has evolved into being a pub serving great food and a birthday destination. In 1993, the 100,000th person celebrated their birthday at Nitty Gritty and by 2011 more than half a million people had come to the Nitty Gritty for their birthday.
To partake in their birthday celebration, bring a photo ID on your birthday in order to drink free soda, specialty birthday cocktails or beer in a birthday memento mug that you get to take home with you. Additionally they will give you a balloon, put your name in lights, and will read your name off on the hour all night so everyone can cheer and celebrate with you! If that isn’t enough, you will also receive a Gritty birthday card to use once a month for a free mini ice cream sundae.
Nitty Gritty isn’t just birthdays though, they serve burgers (including the Burger of the Day), a Friday Fish Fry with beer-battered Cod or Walleye, and a plentiful menu of sandwiches, chicken, salads, appetizers, and more!
